Earlier this week, Ratan Tata had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for age-related ailments. On Wednesday, he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his condition worsened. He breathed his last surrounded by close family and friends.

Ratan Tata took the helm of the Tata Group in 1991, succeeding his great-grandfather’s legacy and leading the conglomerate through a period of global expansion. His leadership saw the launch of Tata Teleservices in 1996 and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) going public in 2004.
